PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR PLUG

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody higher performance and to improve handling quality in assembling by polishing an optical fiber which is fixed to a ferrule and exposed from a front end in such a manner that its front end is made flush with the front end of the ferrule. SOLUTION: An adhesive is packed into the predomed ferrule 1 and after an adhesive is adhered to the optical fiber, the optical fiber is inserted into the ferrule 1 and the adhesive is thermally cured. The ferrule 1 internally fixed with the optical fiber is then set at a polishing jig 10 and is subjected to a perpendicular polishing treatment. The ferrule 1 clamped by the jig 10 is pressed onto a polishing disk constituted by sticking an elastic body 11 and a thin plastic film 12 onto a pedestal 13 and the polishing disk is rotated to lap the ferrule by the motion to laterally oscillate the mounting jig 10. The fiber and the adhesive covering its periphery are gradually chipped and the polishing progresses toward the fiber at the center of the ferrule 1. The polishing is ended when the end faces of the fiber and the ferrule 1 are made flush with each other.
