An article of sporting footwear comprises a vamp 2 and a sole unit 3, wherein at least most of the vamp is formed from aramid fibre fabric. Preferably, the article of footwear is a football boot having studs 4 on the sole unit 3. The vamp 2 may comprise a rear stiffening portion 15 and may also include closure flaps 13, 14 constructed from a semi-rigid material. At least some of the vamp 2 may be formed from a composite material. An outer surface (5, Fig. 2) of the vamp 2 may be provided with a number of projections 6 and the vamp 2 at a front part of the footwear may also comprise recesses. |
