PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering unit for a vehicle to improve the deflection suppression performance against disturbances acted on the vehicle such as a crosswind, without losing the information on the road condition, as well as to enable the setting of the correct steering force in normal turn. SOLUTION: For the ratioα, the steering reaction torque against the overall steering torque, the upper limitαmax and the lower limitαmin are determined. So, the lower limitαmin at which the steering holding force is ensured to a certain extent and the information on the road condition can be detected sensitively. Furthermore, determination of the upper limitαmax at a relatively low level at which steering force setting is easily made makes it possible that correct steering force and vehicle behavior suppression force under the effect of disturbances are both made available throughout the entire running speed range.
