A new catalytic composition based on manganese and oxides of cerium or cerium + zirconium

The use of manganese-based catalysts to suppress the emission of nitrogen oxides from exhaust gases resulting from diesel or lean burn internal combustion engines. The catalyst composition comprises manganese, cerium oxide or a mixture of cerium and zirconium oxides and another rare earth element. The cerium oxide or cerium/zirconium oxide forms a support and manganese is introduced by means of potassium permanganate. Independent claims are also included for the treatment process of gases to reduce the emission of NOx, and a catalyst system for effecting this.
