<p>A retraction unit for keys and the like having a housing (12) with a reel (16) mounted in the housing (12) for rotation, a retraction spring for the reel (16), and a cable (17) carried on the reel (16), with the inner end of the cable connected to the reel, and a cable end fitting (18) carried on the outer end of the cable. The fitting (18) has an axial passage (22) with an inner end of a size for receiving the cable (17) and a larger outer end of a size for receiving a cable terminal (19) for retaining the fitting on the cable, the fitting (18) having an inner end (31), a central portion (32) and an outer end (33), with the central portion (32) of a lesser cross section than the inner (31) and outer (33) ends, and wherein the housing (12) has an outlet opening (25) of a first lesser width (27) and a second greater width (28), with the first lesser width (27) of a size to accept the central portion (32) of the fitting (18) while not accepting the inner (31) and outer (33) ends thereof, and with the second greater width (28) of a size to accept the inner end (31) of the fitting (18) may pass through the greater width (28) of the outlet opening positioning the central portion (32) of the fitting in the lesser width (27) of the outlet opening (25) with the outer end (33) of the fitting (18) engaging the housing (12) and limiting movement of the fitting (18) into the housing (12).</p> |
