PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove low-boiling compounds from an alkylene oxide adduct without depending on its various characteristics, by limiting pressure-reducing rate causing no trouble during the pressure reduction treatment of the adduct based on the correlation with the foam film stability constant of the crude reaction product. SOLUTION: When (A) a crude reaction product obtained by addition reaction to (A') an active hydrogen atom-contg. compound or (A") a fatty acid alkyl ester, of (A") an alkylene oxide is to be freed from (B) low-boiling compounds, (p)-value defined by formula I ((p) is pressure-reducing rate (Torr/min); A1 and A2 are each a constant determined depending on the kind of the components A', A" and A"; (e) is the base number of natural logarithm;λis foam film stability constant at 100±0.5 deg.C as a value determined from formula II [(x) is rupture length, a value defined by (t x v), wherein (v) is a specified rate (mm/s) at which a given platinum frame dipped perpendicularly into the component A is pulled up perpendicularly to the level of the component A, and (t) is a time (s) elapsed until the liquid film of the component A is broken]) is set, and the component A is subjected to pressure reduction treatment at a rate of (p)±40%.
