Propellant powder charge production with high density

A propellant powder charge is produced by aligning the longitudinal axes of the powder grains parallel to the longitudinal axis of a propellant charge casing prior to introduction into the casing. A propellant powder charge is produced by: (1) using a vibrating unit (2) to align the longitudinal axes of cylindrical powder grains (12) in a transport direction; (2) introducing the aligned grains into the adjacent cylindrical cavities (5) of a magazine (3), the cavities having a slightly larger cross-section than the grains so that the grains slide into and are stacked in the cavities (5); and (3) expelling the aligned and stacked grains from the magazine either directly into a propellant charge casing or into a thin-walled plastic bag (10) which is than sealed and introduced into the casing as a prefabricated charge. An Independent claim is also included for the apparatus for the above process.
