The control system of the press is constituted in such a way that during tool changing, for transfer of the cross beams (66, 67) and/or the tools carried by the cross beams, it causes the rotary drive to pivot the tools into a transfer orientation. It also causes the height adjustment mechanism to lower the carrier rails down to the level of the tool seating units (83, 84).
