The stay, fitted with one end pivoted to an eye screw (15) on the frame (3) and its other end engaging with a hook (4) on the door or window, is made in two coaxial lengthwise sections (5, 6) joined together by a sleeve (7). The length of the stay is adjustable by having a toothed surface (9) on at least one of the sections, engaging with a screw (14) inserted through the sleeve. Both lengthwise sections and the sleeve are of rectangular cross-section, and the section (6) which engages with the hook (4) is equipped with a handle (13). The handle is set at an angle of 70 90 degrees to the stay's lengthwise axis.
