Transport and separating mechanism for oblong items

The mechanism transports the individual items (2) and batches (14) of them in their transverse direction. The separating mechanism (7) has two or more tracks spaced apart and at right-angles to the transport direction (5) and running between the feed and discharge conveyors (6,8), together with an endless driven chain with pairs of transverse driving dogs. The latter protrude above the track surfaces for an amount no greater than the item thickness, and the tracks follow a concave-curved path between the batch-receiving area (21) and the discharge area (22) for the individual items, separating the latter from the respective batches between the dogs in the process.
