PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a metallic oxide structure, capable of readily controlling the pore size and having the pores especially in the meso-region. SOLUTION: This method for producing a metallic oxide structure comprises a step for aging an aqueous solution containing an amphiphilic compound having the ability to form a bilayer membrane and dispersed or dissolved therein, then drying the aged solution and preparing a bilayer membrane aggregate, a step for bringing an alkaline solution containing a desired metal into contact with the bilayer membrane aggregate once or several times and then a step for removing the bilayer membrane aggregate. The alkaline solution containing the metal is preferably treated with an ion-exchange agent and subsequently brought into contact with the bilayer membrane aggregate. The resultant metallic oxide structure (e.g. an aluminosilicate) has pores of about 10Åto about several hundreds ofÅ, especially about 20Åto one hundred and several lens ofÅsize and is capable of manifesting the amorphism by an X-ray diffractometry.
