The relay switch has an electronic switch in parallel to control starting procedure and limit current in initial phase. The microwave oven comprises a microwave energy source (1) supplied by a voltage raising transformer (3) whose primary is connected to the AC supply (U). Connection is via a current limiting device (5) comprising a relay (7), switch (9) and control circuit (10). The current limiting device further comprises an electronic switching element (12) mounted in parallel with the switch (9) of the relay, and controlled to adopt a closed state when the supply voltage is maximum, during the starting of the oven. The relay is then controlled to adopt the closed state after closure of the switching element.
