PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow fiber membrane type artificial lung that can satis fy any one of pressure loss, gas exchange efficiency and drift of blood. SOLUTION: The hollow fiber membrane type artificial lung 1 has a cylindrical hollow fiber membrane bundle 2, a housing 3 that stores the membrane bundle 2, bulkheads 5, 6 that fix both ends of the membrane bundle 2 to the housing 3, a blood inlet 8 and blood outlets 9a, 9b that communicate with a blood chamber 7 formed in the housing 3, and a gas inlet 11 and a gas outlet 12. Kthe cylindrical hollow fiber membrane bundle 2 satisfies the following: y =<==-0.75x+84, y>= -0.85x+73, and 5 =<== x= <== 31 in the relationship between the filling factor (y; %) of the hollow fiber membrane to a cylindrical space formed by the outside and the inside of the cylindrical hollow fiber membrane bundle 2 and the thickness (x; mm) of the cylindrical hollow fiber membrane bundle 2.
