<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable recording without causing an overlap of dots or formation of a blank part, by detecting a movement characteristic of a carriage loading a thermal head having a plurality of heat-generating elements, and changing a power feed cycle to each heat-generating element of the thermal head in accordance with a result of the detection. SOLUTION: In order to grasp a movement characteristic of a carriage 4 beforehand, the carriage 4 is moved under the same condition as at the time of recording. In other words, a thermal head 8 refrained from recording is pressed to a platen 2 and the carriage 4 is moved along the platen 2 while an ink ribbon is wound. At this time, marks of a linear scale 10 arranged via a constant distance are read by an encoder 9 on the carriage 4, and a result is output as a detection signal to a control circuit. The movement characteristic of the carriage 4 is thus grasped. When images are to be recorded, a power feed cycle to each heat-generating element of the thermal head 8 is changed in accordance with the movement characteristic. High-quality images can be printed accordingly.</p> |
