907,477. Cold separation of gas mixtures. LINDES EISMASCHINEN A.G. GES. FUR. Aug. 6, 1959 [Aug. 6, 1958], No. 26915/59. Class 8 (2). In a gas mixture e.g., hydrogen and deuterium rectification process wherein a condensible impurity e.g., nitrogen is liquefied during cooling of the incoming mixture, traversing a path 3 of a heat exchanger 2 cooled by counterflowing hydrogen gas from the head of a separating column 10, the liquefied impurity is separated in a chamber 5 and after expansion in a valve 6 is fed into the warm end of the exchanger 2 to assist cooling of the incoming mixture and is thereby vaporized and is discharged through a duct 14 together with the hydrogen. Hydrogen and deuterium gas leaving the chamber 5 is cooled in regenerators 9 and expanded at a valve 11 before being fed into the column 10. Product deterrium-rich liquid is withdrawn from the base of the column. A portion of the liquid nitrogen withdrawn from the separator 5 is vaporized in an exchanger 4 traversed by feed gear and maintained at sub-atmospheric pressure by a pump 20 which discharges into the duct 14. Specifications 859,762, 894,558 and 900,953 are referred to. |
