In an optical phase change optical disk of a read only type and an erasable type, recording pits or the structural phase change between the recording mark and the peripheral portion, and the size relation of the reflection index is restricted so that an optical disk of superior reproduction characteristics is obtained if the recording operation is effected with high density.
