SLIDING CONTACT MATERIAL, CLAD COMPOSITE MATERIAL, AND SMALL D.C. MOTOR MADE BY USING THE SAME

A sliding contact material having an alloy composition which is free from any harmful material such as Cd and excellent in particularly contact resistance, has good electrical functions, does not change with the elapse of time, and has excellent abrasion resistance. This material has an alloy composition comprising an Ag-Zn-Pd alloy, an Ag-Zn-Pd-Cu alloy, an Ag-Zn-Pd-Ni alloy, or an Ag-Zn-Pd-Cu-Ni alloy, wherein the alloy comprises 0.1 to 3.0% by weight of Zn and 0.1 to 1.5% by weight of Pd with the balance consisting of Ag, provided that when the alloy further contains Cu, its content is 0.1 to 3.0% by weight and, when the alloy further contains Ni, its content is 0.01 to 0.5% by weight. In the alloy composition, Zn, Pd, and Cu are dissolved in a solid solution form in an Ag alpha phase, and Ni particles are finely dispersed in the alloy. A clad composite material is formed from this sliding contact material, and a commutator made from this composite material is used in a small d.c. motor of a domestic electric appliance.
