PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for the formation of a carbon-carbon bond capable of controlling a side reaction and capable of steric control under mild conditions and to provide a method for forming a carbon-carbon bond using the catalyst and an addition method using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst for the formation of a carbon-carbon bond contains an azo compd. represented by formula I (where R1 is lower alkyl). A carbon- carbon bond is formed by reaction in the presence of the catalyst. An α- halogenocarboxylic acid deriv. is added to an unsatd. compd. in the presence of the catalyst.
