Position determining device using fibre=optics measuring device

The device includes at least one radiation emitter (18). Deflection and diffusion elements transmit the radiation in a conical pattern with a solid angle of about 180 degrees. The radiation emission pattern has a datum point so that it approximates to a point source. The datum point of the electromagnetic radiation is independent of the angle at which the datum point of the outgoing radiation is observed. An electromagnetic radiation generator is connected to each radiation emitter. An optical fibre and beam splitter transmit the radiation to the emitters. A number of radiation sensors detect respective beams from the emitters. A device differentiates the radiation from at least two emitters and the position of the emitter is determined in a three-dimensional coordinate system.
