<p>A radial ply tyre in which the beads do not have a bead wire but have an annular element (7) with a tensile strength at break much less than would be necessary for a bead wire, e.g. less than 500 daN pref. less than 300 daN. At least two layers of reinforcement (8,9) are placed in contact with or close to the element (7). The assembled reinforcing layers have a tensile strength at break in the longitudinal direction at least equal to that necessary for a bead wire, e.g. 800 daN, pref. 1000 daN. The carcass plies are wound around the annular element (20). The upper ends of the reinforcement layers are positioned at different heights in the bead. Also claimed is the method of manufacture on the lay up drum.</p> |
