<p>A flanged wheel fastener 10 comprises a body 12 with a threaded portion 16, a load-bearing surface 18, a hexagon head 20 to receive a wrench, and a flange 22 extending around the fastener body 12 intermediate the hexagon head 20 and the load-bearing surface 18. A cap 14 is disposed over the fastener 10, and is bent around the flange 22 to retain the cap 14 on the fastener body 12. The edge 28 of the cap 14 is axially spaced away from the load-bearing surface 18, and the cap 14 is free of adhesive and welding attachment to the fastener body 12. The fastener 10 may comprise a nut or bolt (Fig 5), and the flange 22 may be replaced by an annular ridge (32, Fig 7).</p> |
