The method involves measuring the current currently being fed into a network (5) and determining its apparent, effective and reactive components. The wind power system (2) is connected via a three-phase controller and the current fed into the network is regulated to a predefined demand value. Capacitors (10) are switched in steps to compensate for reactive power. The three-phase controller (7) or a bypass circuit (9) are switched through via a trip (8) as soon as the supplied current no longer requires limiting following the synchronous speed of the generator (3) being exceeded. After the maximum demanded current is again exceeded, a switching device (12) is connected in regulated manner to regulate the current fed into the network.
