PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal equipped with an agent function capable of the retrieval processing of information necessary for the action request content of a user. SOLUTION: At the time of connecting a portable information terminal 100 with a communication network 40, and reading information necessary for the action request content of a user from an outside information data base, information matched with an extraction condition such as a present time or a present position at the time of retrieving information is read from an outside device(a host PC20 or an information service center 30) having an information data base suited to the classification of the information specified by the input instruction of the user. Then, the read information is narrowed down under a derived narrowing-down condition based on the past selected information data of the user, and the selected and collected information is provided to the user.
