Improved tensioning or pre-loading of screws (13) used to assemble dental implants (11, 12) is made possible by using screws (13) which have a coating of gold, particularly screws (13) made of palladium alloy. The increased pre-load improves the stability of the dental implant assembly (11, 12) because greater mastication forces are then required to pry apart contiguous components of the implant assembly (11, 12) and bend the screws (13).
