PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing device for simplifying a circuit configuration and reducing noises and skew on a screen at the special reproducing time of both an NTSC system and a CCIR (PAL or SECAM) system. SOLUTION: Heads R, L, L' and R' are provided, the gap length of heads R and L' and the gap length of heads R' and L are set so as to satisfy the conditions of nH (the cycle of horizontal synchronizing signal in the NTSC system with (n) as an integer) and 0.95q<=A<=1.05q [(A=625/525)×(n) with (q) as an integer] or to satisfy the conditions of mH (the cycle of horizontal synchronizing signal in the PAL system with (m) as an integer) and 0.95p<=A<=1.05p [A=(525/625)×(m) with (q) as an integer], a delay circuit 18 is provided for selectively delaying the reproduced signals of respective heads, and any reproduced signal is provided by changing over a switch 19.
