High pressure fuel injector

The injector tip (11) holding the spring loaded injector needle, is located inside and outer support sleeve (13) with the top end of the sleeve with an outer lip (41). The lip is pressed into a groove (46) around the injector housing by a simple press action tool (49) to form a secure fitting in which the fuel pressure is taken up as axial stress in the injector assembly. The lip has an outer chamfer (44) which is engaged by a chamfered inner edge (51) of the tool. After pressing the sleeve has an outer cylindrical profile. The axial grip between the lip and the housing is provided by sloping flanges, as is the grip between the bottom of the support sleeve and the injector tip.
