PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain excellent high density recording even for a high frequency of 20MHz or above by making thickness of a magnetic layer and total thickness of laminated respective layers within the specified ranges in a metal evaporated type magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The magnetic layer 2 is formed on one side surface of a supporting body 1 such as a cellulose dielectric, etc., with ferromagnetic metal material by an oblique vapor deposition method within the range of the thickness of 1000-1400Å, and a diamond like carbon layer 3 is formed on it by a CVD method, etc., to the thickness of 20-200Å, and further, a lubricant layer 4 consisting of a lubricant is formed on it by a spray method, etc. An intermediate layer 6 of a non-magnetic body is provided between the supporting body 1 and the magnetic layer 2. At this time, the total thickness of formed four layers is made 2500Åor below. Further, a solution of carbon black, etc., is applied to the other side surface of the supporting body 1, and a back coat layer 5 is formed to the thickness of 0.2-1.0μm. Thus, magnetic coupling and a traveling property between the magnetic head and the magnetic layer are made excellent, and high density recording for the high frequency becomes possible.
