A self-replenishing liquid developer system for an electrostatic imaging system including an insulating non-polar carrier liquid. toner particles dispersed in the carrier liquid, at least one charge direc tor compound having a limited solubility in the carrier liquid and dissolved therein at its saturation concentration and excess ofthe at least one charge director compound comprised in a solid phase and being in equilibrium contact with the carrier liquid.
