An scanning apparatus is described with a charge coupled device (CCD) consisting of a plurality of non square crystals. To the modulate a vertical width lateral width relation in the non square crystal, the improved CCD scanning apparatus can diminish the sample width, and increase the sample frequency, therefore it can reduce the distortion and improve the quality of the image.
