PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antioxidant, capable of preventing influences exerted on living bodies by peroxides, excellent in safety and useful for medicine, cosmetics, healthy foods, etc., by including capsanthin (or its fatty acid ester) as an active ingredient therein. SOLUTION: This antioxidant comprises capsanthin (or its fatty acid ester), e.g. a compound represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each H) as an active ingredient. An extract from paradicsom paprika, a carotenoid extracted from the paradicsom paprika or a vegetable extracted essence, extracted therefrom and having antioxidant actions is preferably used as the antioxidant. |
