The device has a lower part in the form of a table or bed (2). A geometrical horizontal pivot axis is pivotally mounted on the lower part (2). An upper part (3) forms, together with the lower part (2), an irradiation chamber for a user. A spring (6) is provided between the upper and lower parts to balance the weight of the upper part (3). The spring (6) acts on a force effect site on the upper part (3) which takes up a radial distance from the pivot axis. The end of the spring (6) acting on the upper part (2) engages the upper part (3) either directly or via a flexible force transfer device e.g. a cable or chain. This end of the spring (6) or the force transmitting device is fed via a curved guide path of a guide body on a side of the pivot axis bent away from the irradiation chamber and spaced from the axis. The effect of the weight of the upper part is increased in dependence on the pivot angle of the upper part (3).
