The blade is cast including a projection extending axially from the root section and supported in a recess formed in the outer periphery of said rotor disk. A member conducts cooling air into internal passages formed in the turbine blade through the recess. The projection extends in the disk to define a metering plate to regulate the flow of cooling air from the recess into the passages. The length of the projection is modifiable so as to be predetermined, in situ, to select the amount of metering by the metering plate. The disk includes a pair of opposing side walls and a bottom wall defining in recess, extending short of the bottom wall and to the pair of side walls.
