PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To oxidation-decompose a nitrogen compound at ordinary temperature and under atmospheric pressure without using an oxidizing agent and to decrease biological oxygen demand by electrolyzing water containing the nitrogen compound and inorganic chloride and contacting the water with a metal peroxide catalyst. SOLUTION: Drainage containing nitrogen oxide is introduced into a storage tank 1, inorganic chloride is added as required to be mixed and dissolved. This is sent to an electric reaction vessel 3 by a pump 2, electrolyzed, and returned to the tank 1. Water containing the nitrogen oxide after the completion of electrolysis and a generated hypochlorite ion is sent to a reaction column 5 by a pump 4. Since the column 5 is filled with a metal peroxide catalyst, the water is contacted with the catalyst at ordinary temperature and pressure, and nitrogen oxide is decomposed away. In this way, treatment can be done with a small-sized apparatus in a high removal percentage without using an oxidizing agent. |
