Gradient coil arrangement for magnetic resonance imaging system

The arrangement includes a number of ring coils (1) which generate a main magnetic field enclosing an examination room. The axes of the ring coils lie on a longitudinal axis of the examination room. The gradient usage coils are arranged on two radially opposite surface areas (12), symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the examination room. The surface areas comprise such a curvature in their cross-section, that the distance between both surface areas is larger in the middle than at the edge. The curvature of the surface areas is preferably smaller than the curvature of an outer wall of the examination room, and the surface areas are bent in their axial cross-section in such way, that they comprise a smaller distance with respect to each other in the middle of the examination room than at the edge.
