The shock absorber has a tube (1) containing gas and oil, a piston rod (2) fitting in the tube and a piston valve (3) at one end of the rod. A guide (8) is provided at a lower end of the tube to guide the reciprocating movement of the rod in the tube. A static valve (40) is fixed to the tube inner wall at a position above the piston rod and produces a damping effect with the piston valve. The static valve has a fixed valve body (41), through which a number of longitudinally extending holes (42) are formed, and upper (43) and lower (44) discs, which are fitted under or on top of the fixed valve body. A coil spring (20) is provided, which is installed between the piston valve and the static valve.
