PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material having no double colors by providing satisfactory storage stability before recording, stable recording image, fixability and handleability in a bright room, and its recording method. SOLUTION: In the recording material comprising an optical free radical generating agent for generating free radical by absorbing light, and optical color erasing element containing dye to be erased by the radical generated from the agent on the same surface of a support, the agent contains at least one type of acyl phosphorus oxide derivatives represented by a formula I or a formula II (where R<1> to R<6> indicate substituted or non-substituted saturated or unsaturated alkyl group, alkoxy group, aryl group, amino group, heterocyclic group or halogen atom, which may be the same or different from each other.
