PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound consisting of a specific substituted 7, 12-dioxabenzo[a]anthracene compound obtained from a benzodioxin carboxylic acid ester, having an antitumor activity and useful as an antitumor agent for the treatment of a cancer. SOLUTION: This new substituted dioxabenzo[a]anthracene compound is expressed by formula I [R<1> is H or a group of the formula: OR (R is H, a 1-6C alkyl, etc.); R<2> is H, a halogen, OH, a 1-6C alkoxy, formyl, CF3 SO3 , cyano, etc.; X is a (substituted) N, CR<3> (R<3> is H or a 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl; in the case that X is CR<3> , then R<3> , X and a C bonding with them together become a group of formula II (R'a is a 1-6C alkyl, etc.); Y is N or CR<4> (R<4> is H, OH, an alkoxy, etc.)], and is useful as an antitumor agent, etc. The compound is obtained by using 1,4-benzodioxin-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester as a starting material, oxidizing, amidating, arylating to form a compound of formula IV [R'<1> is a (protected) R<1> ] and then cyclizing the above compound. |
