This device comprises needles (20) each having an eye (22) through which a weft yarn (8) passes. The needles (20) are arranged parallel to one another, all the needle eyes (22) being located on the same side. Means (56, 60) are provided for displacing one needle (20) longitudinally relative to the others between an inoperative position and a selecting position. The device comprises a weft yarn guide (70), arranged between the inoperative position and the selecting position of the needles for converging a weft yarn (8) towards a predetermined position when a needle (20) moves from the inoperative position to the selecting position.
