A nut frozen to a rotatable threaded shaft can be unloosened from the shaft by inserting a split haft-clamping member onto the shaft, and maintaining a squeezi ng force on the clamping member while a wrench is applied to the nut. The clamping member holds the threaded shaft in a fixed, non-rotary, condition, thereby preventing t he shaft from turning with the nut.
