The system has a control unit that receives an input from a speed sensor and provides a comparison with an adjustable speed limit value. The controller then transmits the signal to a central station over a remote communication link to an electronic system within the vehicle. The speed limit value is visually displayed or acoustically indicated. If an attempt to exceed the limit is made a restriction is applied to the engine fuel supply. At least two controllers are used for generating the monitoring signals and for monitoring the operational capability of each other.
