The invention relates to a processing machine for work pieces (16) of flat material, specially sheet metal, comprising a work station (12a, 12b) designed as a bending station, in which the work piece is mounted parallel to a bending surface plane by means of a lower cheek (126) and an upper cheek (130) to carry out a bending operation and bent by a bending cheek (114) along a bending edge (140). Said machine also comprises a manipulation device (18) with a gripper (162) to hold the work piece and a positioning device for the gripper, which allows it to move horizontally in a first direction (X) across the bending surface plane to the bending edge and to rotate around an axis (D) vertical to the bending surface plane. In order to improve said machine in such a way that it can perform additional bending operations in other processes, such as the final processing of a sheet steel, at least with respect to its shaping, the disclosure proposes to move the gripper with the positioning device in a second direction (Y) parallel to the bending surface plane and in a vertical direction (Z) perpendicular to the bending edge.
