PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure high removing performance in medium and high molecular regions, a small amt. of albumin leaked in a dialyzed soln. and superior separating property by using a polymer of a cellulose deriv., imparting a sparse-dense structure and carrying out sterilization with steam under high pressure. SOLUTION: A hollow fiber membrane using a polymer of a cellulose deriv. and having a structure similar to that of a selectively permeable hollow fiber membrane of a synthetic polymer, that is, an asymmetric sparse-dense structure with a dense layer on the inside is heat-sterilized to obtain the objective hollow fiber membrane having >=100ml/hr.mmHg.m<2> coefft. of ultrafiltration of water at 37 deg.C and >=4.0×10<-5> cm/sec permeation factor of 0.l% aq. soln. of dext ran whose mol.wt. is 10,000. The coefft. of sieving of albumin by using cow plasma is <=0.03. The membrane has superior separating property even when it is made dense by sterilization with steam under high pressure.
