Electromagnetic clutch for compressor for vehicle air conditioning

The clutch connects the compressor shaft (12) to the belt drive of an engine, to power the air conditioning compressor. A thermal cut-out is mounted in a recess alongside the solenoid coil to cut out the clutch when the temperature of the coil exceeds a set safety level eg. if the compressor stalls. This disconnects the compressor and allows the belt drive to continue to power the other equipment eg. generator, oil pump etc. The thermal cut-out recess is shaped with the solenoid recess and is positioned near to the friction surface of the clutch. When the temperature exceeds the safety limit the thermal cut-out goes open circuit.
