The fork blade (3) comprises a basic part (3a) connected with the fork back (1), on which is longitudinally displaceably fitted a head-piece part (3b) activated by a drive (5, 6). The head-piece part is connected with at least one drive transmission component (4), which is protected against breakage and wrenching and longitudinally movable at least over a part of the work back and the basic part of the fork blade, and is movable in opposite directions by the drive. The drive transmission component (4) is formed as a chain, belt or similar of steel or plastic and is arranged within a guide channel. The drive (5) is rotary, and particularly is an electric or hydraulic motor. It can also be a pressure medium cylinder (6).
