The present invention relates to rubber compositions containing a N,N'-bis(hydroxyphenyl)maleamide. The rubbers modified with the N,N'-bis(hydroxyphenyl)maleamide exhibit improved reversion resistance and increased tear strengths. The N,N'-bis(hydroxyphenyl)maleamide may also be used as a replacement for resorcinol in rubber compositions and function as a methylene acceptor for reaction with conventional methylene donors.
