PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environment suitable for the end user by controlling remotely a video camera via a general-purpose network such as the Internet. SOLUTION: A request in a description form of an HTML text is given to a communication interface means 1011 from an external device 1002 being a WWW server or a browser, then a command interpreter means 1012 recognizes an image pickup command at the head of the request text and woven panning/tilt/zooming to be designated are available of execution, an acknowledge is returned to the device 1002. Then a camera control means 1017 controls a camera 1003 based on the designated panning/tilt/zooming values, the picked-up image is converted into a designated image format, and the result is replied to the request source device 1002 via the interface means 1011. Since the HTTP protocol is used like a WWW server, content type information and status information or the like in response to the image format are added to the head of the return signal. Thus, the picked-up image is given to the HTML text like image data stored in the WWW server file. |
