The brake cylinder has a pedal actuated piston which forces brake fluid out of a pressure chamber (4) inside the cylinder to a brake circuit. In the event of a crash an additional pressure chamber (2) can be connected to the pressure chamber to receive part of the brake fluid. In normal driving the additional chamber is closed off by a barrier (10;11) which deforms during a crash to allow flow.
