PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a copper base sliding member excellent in corrosion resistance and wear resistance even under the service condition where lubricating oil of high S concentration is used, by constituting a sliding layer, joined to a backing plate layer, so that it has a specific composition containing Zn and Cu and also has specific hardness. SOLUTION: A sliding layer is joined to a backing plate layer composed, e.g. of a steel plate with high rigidity, by which a douple-layer sliding member is obtained. The sliding layer has a composition consisting of, by weight, 35-43% Zn and the balance Cu and further containing, if necessary, 1-10% Pb and/or <=10% of one or more elements among Sn, Ni, Si, Mn, Al, and P and also has a hardness of 80-150 Vickers hardness. Further, an intermediate layer of Cu or Ni alloy can be provided between the backing plate layer and the sliding layer, if necessary. This copper base sliding member can be obtained by laying a plate as a sliding layer on a plate as a backing plate, subjecting these plates to joining with pressure by means of pressed joining by rolling at about 35-50% draft at room temp., applying diffusion annealing at about 350-650 deg.C, and further performing work hardening treatment by means of roll working at about 3-30% draft. |
