FIELD: radioactive logging of oil and gas wells during drilling operations. SUBSTANCE: tubular radiation shield is positioned coaxially to pipe string so that part of shield is inserted in drill pipe string, grip is joined with holder, and radioactive source mounted on holder is displaced from shielded position in tubular shield along longitudinal axis of the latter to working position. Device used for the purpose has catching head with grip, tubular radiation shield with channel stretching from one end of shield to other allowing clamp to pass through tubular shield.
