PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability of a variable displacement compressor by shifting a cam plate to a minimum tilting angle state in a short time at stopping of the compression operation, thereby reducing restarting shock, and reducing load to be applied to parts in the compressor. SOLUTION: A clutch 19 is arranged for controlling starting and stopping of compression operation. A tilting angle of a cam plate 34 is adjusted for varying discharge capacity based on difference between pressure inside a crank chamber 29 and pressure inside a cylinder bore 27 through a piston 28. A communication passage 55 is formed between a discharge chamber 41 and the crank chamber 29. An opening/closing valve 57 which is opened at the time of stopping compression operation is arranged on the communication passage 55.
